Hey!

So if you have been reading my blog for a while then you probaly know I LOVE to experiment with homemade deep treatments for my hair. This is the last one I have tried:

Cucumber and Aloe Vera hair mask:

Put half a cucumber in the blender with half a cup of aloe vera gel ( natural, organic). Mix until well blended. Put through a strainer so you get rid of the small pieces of cucumber peel.

Apply to hair and leave in for 30 minutes.

Results: Shiny and very hidrated hair!

[CLOSED] Blog Design + Giveaway!

So if you have been on my blog lately then you have probably noticed it got a complete MAKEOVER! I’m so happy with how it turned out, I think it looks adorable and the design fits me perfectly. My blog was designed by the very talented Lee from Designs By Lee. She does all types of digital cards/announcements for Birthdays, Births, Engagements, Baby Showers, Save the Date, Anniversary's, Graduations and anything else. She also designs blogs and can even design etsy shops. She does custom logos & business cards and is available to do photo enhancement/retouching. Lee is a stay at home mom (for the time being) raising 2 little girls. She fell in love with photoshop about 7 years ago and loves what she’s been doing ever since.

When I began looking into blog designers I learned that getting a custom design for your blog can be very pricey! But Lee’s shop offers blog packages starting at $30 and blog banners at $15. I think that is a real deal especially considering how cute the designs are.

Having Lee work on my blog makeover was amazing, she listened to every idea I had and was always willing to change anything I didn’t like. She sent me various designs until I was completely pleased. She was always kind and patient, so the customer service for this shop was definitely top notch. I think that is SUCH an important aspect that should always be taken into account when you are shopping for something.

I am so in love with how my blog looks now, it’s so much more personal and beyond cute. ( I must confess I often just log on to scroll up and down the blog and see how pretty it looks, I know I’m such a dork!) If you are looking for any type of designs whether it be for your blog or something else I personally recommend Designs By Lee.

So I also have some really exciting news to tell you! Lee has offered to do a custom blog design for one of my lovely readers! How amazing is that?

One of you will be able to win a custom design for your blog!

Zapping Zits!

4 easy ways to zap a zit:

Aspirin- dissolve a couple of aspirin in a teaspoon of water and apply the paste directly to the zit. Aspirin is anti-inflammatory so it will bring down swelling.

On-the-spot treatments- To dry up a zit try using a product with 2.5 benzyl peroxide or 0.5 salicylic acid. Don’t use anything stronger than 2.5 percent or you may dry up the skin which will cause you lots of other problems. They key is to not go crazy with the product; just dab a small amount on the problem area.

Ice- since ice can be irritating cover a few cubes with a washcloth and hold it against your zit for around 10 minutes.

Eye drops- eye drops are made to reduce the redness in your eyes, but they will actually do the same for a pimple. Just a couple of drops should do the trick. I like to use Visine.

Here are a couple of tips to prevent zits showing up on your face in the first place!

Keep your skin moisturized- I know it may seem logical to want to suck out every bit of oil from your skin with drying products and completely forgo the idea of using moisturizer but this is really not a good idea. When your skin is too dry the androgen hormone kicks into overdrive and starts to produce tons of sebum to compensate fro the dryness of your skin. This will most likely lead to clogged pores when most likely will lead to dreaded zits :s. so to avoid this make sure you always use an oil-free moisturizer even if you have oily skin.

Exfoliate- exfoliating removes dead skin cells from your skin which could possibly clog your pores if they are not scrubbed away.

Stop stressing- stress causes your hormones to go crazy which could also lead to a couple zits popping up. So be sure to take deep breaths, relax, and take some quiet time for you.

Acne-fighting face mask- once a week you should treat your skin to a mask that will help to fight clogged pores and breakouts. Clay masks are good because they suck up the excess oil from your skin and unplug clogged pores.

I hope this post was helpful for you!

beauty Tip of the Week: Frizzy hair remedy!

This week's beauty tip is something I learned not to long ago from a friend. I tried it and fell in love with the resluts.

It is an apple cider vinegar rinse that helps to tame frizzy hair.

How to make it:

Mix equal parts of the vinegar with water. Soak your hair with this at the end of your shower. Allow the hair rinse to sit in your hair for about 2 or 3 minutes and rinse well.

This makes your hair really smooth and calms your frizzy locks. Apple cider vinegar is great for hair, if you are a brunnette this will actually help to enhance your hair color. This kind of vinegar is also great for giving the hair a nice shine.

* I don't recommend this for blonds.

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation Review

I have had this foundation a pretty long time now and I used it for a while. This is one of those drugstore products that almost everyone has tried at some point and most people have really different opinions about it. The reason I got this foundation was because of its matte effect. I was also really intrigued by the mousse texture.

The first problem I encountered with this foundation was that I didn’t get the right shade :/. I got it in the winter months so my skin was lighter and I managed to make it look ok by applying some bronzed pressed powder. However as the summer months came along I started to get tan and there was just no matching this to my skin tone. I got it in the shade Pure Beige Medium 2; this shade has a pink undertone which was also a problem since I have yellow undertones.
But putting aside the whole wrong shade problem here’s what I think about the product:

Pros:
*It has a very matte finish so it’s great for oilier skin types.
*You get the most beautiful airbrushed effect from this foundation.
*Ultra light weight, you feel like you have nothing on your face at all!
*Buildable coverage
*Great price

Cons:
*The packaging, I really don’t like foundations that you have to actually stick your finger in the jar, it’s just not sanitary and can lead to spreading zit causing infections on your face. (Read below for my solution to this problem).
*Doesn’t last throughout the day (although I have very oily skin and never used a primer with this so that may be the reason why it doesn’t last too long for me, it might be different for others).
*Tricky to apply. When I first got this I really had no idea to put it on. (Application methods below)

Verdict: Overall it is an ok foundation especially when you consider the price. My favorite aspect is the beautiful finish it gives your skin but I really wish I was packaged differently and that it lasted longer on my skin like other foundations I have tried(even without primer).

Extra details:

Solution to packaging problem: I came up with a way to use this so that is more sanitary.
Use a wooden Popsicle stick and scoop out the amount you will be using, then place it on either the back of your hand or the lid of the product. This way your finger never gets in the jar and you don’t contaminate the rest of the product!

Application methods:

Fingers: this is the first way I tried to apply it. It works well if you are looking for a light coverage. It looks very natural when you do this but it’s not enough to cover up problem areas.
Regular foundation brush: This was my second method; this gives you very thick coverage but almost cakey. I feel like it just sits on top of your skin this way and looks kind of unnatural.

Kabuki brush: This is my favorite way of applying it. I use a small kabuki and I stipple it into my skin and then buff it out. This also helps with that airbrush finish I mentioned before.

** Using it as a concealer: So I now have a new foundation but I still have quite a bit of product left and didn’t want it to go to waste. I read that this foundation worked just as good as the now discontinued Dream Matte Mousse Concealer. Since this is a lighter shade for me it’s the perfect use to give it! I love how it covers my under eye circles and any blemishes. I actually like this A LOT better as a concealer than as a foundation so if you really like the concealer that is discontinued don’t fret, get the foundation a shade lighter, works just as good!

As a foundation I give this 3 ½ stars!
As a concealer I give this 5 stars!

Have you ever used this foundation? If so, what do you think?
XOXO,
