Review: Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

I have never completely finished a pressed powder. For some reasson I always either lost them or they fell and broke into tiny pieces. So even trhough I have hit pan on my powders I have never actually completely finished it. Until now.

I used up my Maybelline Dream Matte Powder until there was not the tiniest little speck of powder left in the packaging! I didn’t lose it and I didn’t break it.I loved this powder so much that I treated it carefully and stored it so that I would never misplace it and have to go a day without this amazing product!

Yes, I’m in love.

This powder has it all, great packaging, amazing price and best of all it works! It keeps me matte throughout the day.

I apply this over my Revlon Colorstay foundation and it gives me a beautiful soft, matter finish. I only need to re apply this once somewhere around mid afternoon and I’m set for the entire day. This really is a great quality product.

Some other things I love about this product include the packaging, the price and the fact that you can just get this any drugstore. I love the packaging for this product because it has a mirror you can slide out from underneath and a great place to store the powder applicator so that you don’t have to place it over the product like you normally would with another powder.

This product can be found at most drugstore for around $7.

I want to introduce my new rating system that I will now be using for all reviews. It’s like a 5 star rating system, except I’ll be using little sweet candies! I hope you like it J

So the final veredict:

I love this powder and seriously need to go repurchase as soon as possible!

The Maybelline Dream Matte Powder gets:

A 5 on the Sweet Scale!

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation Review

I have had this foundation a pretty long time now and I used it for a while. This is one of those drugstore products that almost everyone has tried at some point and most people have really different opinions about it. The reason I got this foundation was because of its matte effect. I was also really intrigued by the mousse texture.

The first problem I encountered with this foundation was that I didn’t get the right shade :/. I got it in the winter months so my skin was lighter and I managed to make it look ok by applying some bronzed pressed powder. However as the summer months came along I started to get tan and there was just no matching this to my skin tone. I got it in the shade Pure Beige Medium 2; this shade has a pink undertone which was also a problem since I have yellow undertones.
But putting aside the whole wrong shade problem here’s what I think about the product:

Pros:
*It has a very matte finish so it’s great for oilier skin types.
*You get the most beautiful airbrushed effect from this foundation.
*Ultra light weight, you feel like you have nothing on your face at all!
*Buildable coverage
*Great price

Cons:
*The packaging, I really don’t like foundations that you have to actually stick your finger in the jar, it’s just not sanitary and can lead to spreading zit causing infections on your face. (Read below for my solution to this problem).
*Doesn’t last throughout the day (although I have very oily skin and never used a primer with this so that may be the reason why it doesn’t last too long for me, it might be different for others).
*Tricky to apply. When I first got this I really had no idea to put it on. (Application methods below)

Verdict: Overall it is an ok foundation especially when you consider the price. My favorite aspect is the beautiful finish it gives your skin but I really wish I was packaged differently and that it lasted longer on my skin like other foundations I have tried(even without primer).

Extra details:

Solution to packaging problem: I came up with a way to use this so that is more sanitary.
Use a wooden Popsicle stick and scoop out the amount you will be using, then place it on either the back of your hand or the lid of the product. This way your finger never gets in the jar and you don’t contaminate the rest of the product!

Application methods:

Fingers: this is the first way I tried to apply it. It works well if you are looking for a light coverage. It looks very natural when you do this but it’s not enough to cover up problem areas.
Regular foundation brush: This was my second method; this gives you very thick coverage but almost cakey. I feel like it just sits on top of your skin this way and looks kind of unnatural.

Kabuki brush: This is my favorite way of applying it. I use a small kabuki and I stipple it into my skin and then buff it out. This also helps with that airbrush finish I mentioned before.

** Using it as a concealer: So I now have a new foundation but I still have quite a bit of product left and didn’t want it to go to waste. I read that this foundation worked just as good as the now discontinued Dream Matte Mousse Concealer. Since this is a lighter shade for me it’s the perfect use to give it! I love how it covers my under eye circles and any blemishes. I actually like this A LOT better as a concealer than as a foundation so if you really like the concealer that is discontinued don’t fret, get the foundation a shade lighter, works just as good!

As a foundation I give this 3 ½ stars!
As a concealer I give this 5 stars!

Have you ever used this foundation? If so, what do you think?

July Favorites!

My favorite products for the month of July!

Maybelline "The Turbo Volume Express" mascara:

My favorite brand of drugstore mascaras in Maybelline, and this mascara reminded me of why. My lashes don’t clump at all and look really long with this mascara. It doesn’t make them fuller but since I have naturally full lashes that doesn’t really bother me. It makes my look more intense and awake.

Lancome "Bienfait Multi-Vital Teinte" Spf 30 tinted moisturizer:

I’ve had this for a while but I whipped it out just in time for summer. I like the texture and when I wear this I feel like I have nothing on. It gives me MUCH better coverage than your average tinted moisturizer! Right after I put it on it makes my face look shiny but it’s nothing some setting powder can’t take care of. This is great for someone who want to wear something light but with a bit of coverage.

Ralph Lauren "Hot" perfume:

This perfume has been around for a couple of years but I had never tried it. I was at a perfume shop and was attracted to the bottle because of the pretty purple color. I smelled it and loved it! Right when I smell it I get a scent of coconut, which just happens to be my second favorite scent (you can probably tell by my blog name which is my first favorite J ). After a while you get kind of a mocha, musky sort of scent. I can’t describe really well but I know it smells great because every time I wear it get compliments on how good I smell!

Rose water:

I have oily skin but when I use many harsh products on my face I tends to dry in a bit. I spritz my face with rose water and problem solved! I read somewhere that rose water is great for setting your makeup so I decided to try it out. When I use it as a setting spray I find that my makeup looks dewy and fresh.

Suave Naturals "Tropical Coconut" conditioner:

By far the BEST smelling conditioner I have ever owned! I love this product for o so many reasons. First of all it’s crazy cheap yet works. The bottle is huge so it will last for a while and it has an amazing coconut scent. I actually use this as a leave-in conditioner. After I have washed my hair I get a dime sized amount of this and put it through my hair. It moisturizes it really great, makes it soft, and the scent lingers in my hair for most of the day!

Song favorite of the month:

Help by the Beatles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TU7JjJJZi1Q&feature=related

I listened to this song non stop in July and even used it as my ringtone.

Have you tried any of these products?

What was your favorite song last month?

Bye!
